Chained fungi

Where are these stone fungi? What are they doing in the middle of the woods? At least some of the mystery will be revealed tomorrow.

    Intriguing and interesting photo. Not too tall to be a fence but more like border for a property or something. The chains look big and heavy. These are surely strong mushrooms. :)

    Thanks for the comments. A day has passed and the next day's photo should tell you where they are located. And their function? Put there as decoration by someone fascinated with the pagan mystique of the place, I guess. Whether their shape represents any great pagan symbolism has not yet been revealed to me. You may make up your own mind.

    RogerB: Yes, they are impressive chains.

    Martina + Don and Krise: Yes, it had occurred to me that their shape might not taken from fungus but from something else. However, I did not like to mention that, as it might attract the wrong kind of Google search.

    Sashindoubutsu: Yes, the chains are strong but I think they are purely decorative.

    The shape fascinates of course, but the mosses actually make the shapes very beautiful. The chain makes it sortof into a living thing that is being taken away ...

    Joan Elizabeth: Thanks for the kind words. I have only just noticed that you have two other blogs apart from Blue Mountains Journal (Sweet Wayfaring and Burnbrae Journal). Do you only update the Blue Mountain blog when you go in expeditions to that area?
