2012-05-12 - Source of the Saar

When I reached this sign, I completed my goal of following the River Saar (or Sarre in French) by bike all the way from Konz, where it flows into the Mosel, to Mount Donon, whence it springs — a journey of 250km in total. It was not exactly discovering the source of the Nile, but it was a gratifying personal experience.

View from Mount Donon

Perfect views over Germany and France. This sign is in German, probabĺy from a period when Alsace was under German control.

Reminders of ancient rituals

The top of Mount Donon, one of the major summits in the Vosge Mountains, was the site cult rituals for both Romans and Celts.
