Wintringer Kapelle / Wintringer Chapel
These are the remains of a far larger church built in the 15th century in late Gothic style, which was partially destroyed in the Thirty Years War. It has its own web site (in German).

Kirkel castle
The first recorded mention of Kirkel castle was in 1075. In the 13th century the impressive round tower (2009-12-19) was added. Thereafter, the castle shared a fate similar to other castles I have pictured here. A series of fires and post-mediaeval wars reduced the castle to ruins, and the stones were scavenged for other purposes. Then in the 20th century reconstruction began, in this case the rebuilding of the round tower in 1955.

Did they forget to knock this down? No, it has light tubes in the old window frames! I guess it must be a monument to something.
After a bit internet research, I discover this area is the Bürgerpark, built between 1986 and 1989 on the site of the old port of Saarbrücken. The landscape architects Latz and Partner actually had the ruins built there.
