Old mining village
In Saarland, this red-brick style of building is only to be found in mining settlements such as this, dating back to the end of the 19th century.

They definitely tried to make the most of the River Blies. Five kilometres away from the pottery mill in Sarreguemines is this old hydro-electric power station. In front of it, there is another friendship bridge, a footbridge connecting French Frauenberg with German Habkirchen.

Slaughterhouse Brasserie
There are not many redbrick houses in Saarbrücken. So, this restaurant reminds me a bit of England. Except, however, that the English seem to have vegetarian tendencies and they would not usually name a restaurant so bluntly as "Slaughterhouse", nor have models of the animals on display whose flesh you are about to consume.

Did they forget to knock this down? No, it has light tubes in the old window frames! I guess it must be a monument to something.
After a bit internet research, I discover this area is the Bürgerpark, built between 1986 and 1989 on the site of the old port of Saarbrücken. The landscape architects Latz and Partner actually had the ruins built there.
