Shunned French belle
There were about 30 British roadsters glistening in the sun, but one car was parked far away from the others in the shade. Despite her beautiful, elegant curves, she had not been invited to the party: she had not been made in the land of the Union Jack.

It's funny. Once considered one of the ugliest cars ever built, I see they are gaining in popularity. Who would have known?
ReplyDeleteUgly!? They do seem to becoming more popular, though. USD 444,000 seems to be the going rate, at auction.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Wikipedia, Citroën are going to reintroduce the line. Maybe, the production models will be priced a bit lower.
Urm, my first thought was of the Simpsons. You know how the faces look like they're pulled out, with overbites? Yeah, like that. But that's just me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe British will always naturally put the French in the shade!!
ReplyDeleteAB, and there was no Jaguar E-Type there to take a photo of???? ;-)
ReplyDelete*must admit I like the DS too*
Tastes change over timem, don't they. I too recall people calling Citroen the ugliest cars they have ever seen. But not recently ... ignoring the current model where the design is bell-curved, going back to this era and yes I can understand the outlandish price tag. It is remarkably beautiful ...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments.
ReplyDeleteZ: You have lost me a bit there with the Simpsons reference. I can see I shall have to do more to keep up with American popular culture.
Hyde DP: Vive l'Angleterre!
Martina: Just for you.
Julie: Tastes vary over time and over geography. Apparently, the DS was never as big a hit in the US as it was in Europe. The 2 CV was more universally regarded as ugly. But that was part of its charm.
JM: She is, indeed!
AB, thank you!!! Now, isn't this the most beautiful car ever built??? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...
ReplyDeleteWhere do you find all these beauties? Saarbrücken seems a great place for classy oldtimers. How is that?
ReplyDeleteBuenos Aires Photoblog: I am not sure if there are more oldtimers than elsewhere. It is, perhaps, just that I try to shoot all the ones that I find.
ReplyDeleteWhat is more distinctive in Saarbrücken are lots of Smart cars. These were produced in a town nearby and I think there must have been a special promotion for paint jobs. The lady running the local kindergarten, for example, had hers done up as a bumble bee. I will see if I can capture one for the blog.
