Giant Spillikins

  1. Ah, that's Mikado in Germany.

Probably alteration of Flemish spelleken, diminutive of spelle, pin, from Middle Flemish, ultimately from Medieval Latin spnula, diminutive of Latin spna, thorn.
    Intersting.

  2. Martina: I am impressed that the Romans managed to pronounce such a cluster of consonants - spna. The question is: what is it called in Lëtzebuergesch?

By the way, each giant spillikin points to place of interest in the neighbourhood.

  3. Unfortunately there is no Letzebürgisch' wikipedia article about this ;-) - otherwise I could have told you *g*.

    Nice idea this.
