They remind me of these computer games - with a paddle and a ball and you had to destroy the tiles ... ;-)
Yes, I agree in 1954 it was very modern, but also in this days it's cool and I like this work and interesting point of view in your photo.
They so remind me of the houses in the subdivision of my mom's home town, almost all built during the 50s and 60s. This looks remarkably well-preserved though.
