plants, rain

Close call

After days of sunshine, the skies turned ominously dark and the clouds let fall a torrent of rain; it was not, however, the end of the world.

  2. This is so subtle. I like the differing tonalities too - particularly the way you've caught the brightness of the main leaf. Do you tweak any of your images or are they just as they come from the phone?

  6. Thanks for the comments.

    Ángel: Gracias.

Jenny Woolf: Yes, I do tweak the images. In the early days of this blog, I tried to refrain from any post-processing. Later, I learned how much better a photo can be with little effort. Moreover, there are currently quite a few “apps” that can do the post-processing on the phone itself and that is what I used here.

I had the general idea in my mind — a leaf coming towards the viewer, focusing on the drops, lush green leaves in the background — but it took me about 8 shots to find a suitably charismatic leaf, the right framing and the right exposure. The resulting photo is here. Then I ran it quickly through the Vignette app on the phone to get the photo here. That was the shot I first put up and Ángel commented on. Later, I thought the highlighting of the charismatic leaf was too subtle for the small blog format and I added more vignetting to get the photo now showing in the post.

the dear Zé: There were not so many lunatics around that day. I think they were preparing for the end of the world.

Irina: Спасибо. I did not let a little apocalypse ruin my day!

    Cezar and Léia: Obrigado.

  8. No rain in Mainz ... it's like we are living under a dome. I see the rain coming from the Saarland ... and right before Mainz it turns the other way.

This leaf is a little bit yellow, too ...
