White pithead
In 1994 at a cost of ca 200 mllion euros, the tallest pithead in the world went into operation in Göttelborn. So much money and hi-tech would surely save the coal-industry in Saarland. But it was not to be. Six years later all coal-mining in Göttelborn ceased. By the end of 2011 not a single chunk of coal will be produced in Saarland.

to be honest with you I prefer those old ones!
ReplyDeleteFantastic architecture, simple to the point that it looks almost like Bauhaus. Love it. Great shot too.
