Rippling reflections

  1. Very nice. I just wish I could tell what the reflection is.

  2. Don and Krise: It is a stylish apartment block on the river front. I thought I could capture how the ripples of the river broke up the lines of the balconies. But this is only going to be really noticeable if you click for the large format.

  5. Great reflection. I like the little waves that give it a little distortion.

  8. The people in the apartment block must have a nice view .. a place to reflect.

  9. I can see it! (the breaking of the balconies line)... water noise is really interesting cause you dont know how the flow is gonna change the reflection, and with this symetrical building works great!!!

  12. Thanks for the comments.

    joo: Dziękuję.

Julie: There is actually a sliver of non-reflection at the top of the photo. I should probably have made that a bit thicker to make the context clearer. I also tried the typical 50-50 symmetrical shot, but, to me it, did not work as well.

    Gallow: Thanks.

    Cezar and Léia: Obrigado.

    meretnature: Merci.

Joan Elizabeth: A nice view indeed. They have to put up with the autobahn across the river, but, as they sit on their terraced balcony, they can see the river, the castle and the citizens of Saarbrücken engaging in their favourite activity — going for a stroll along the north bank of the river.

Helen: I am glad you see the effect. I was beginning to think it was totally lost in the small scale.

Sonia: Hecho de cabeza - durante un terramoto.

Martina: Actually, I thought this was one of the times my phone camera had let me down. The Nokia converts all photos immediately to compressed JPEGs and might do some anti-shake processing, too. You cannot get at the RAW files. Sometimes, I think the conversion introduces artefacts. And in this photo, the clouds do not ripple as much as the apartment block. That seems suspicious to me.

  13. Actually, once you know they are there you can see the ripples on the smaller format too. Nice shot.
