It reminds me of the termite mounds up in the NT. One could easily imagine fair maidens in floaty white robes, flowers in their hair, dancing around these monoliths in the pre-dawn. Imagine having one of these in your front garden - it'd be a great "tourist" attraction! Cheers.
I have never heard of menhirs before ... looked like a termite nest to me.
ReplyDeleteJoan Elizabeth: "I have never heard of menhirs before"
ReplyDeleteThat is because you are Australian and thus sadly ignorant of Asterix. All children in Europe know a menhir is what Obelix always carries around.
I have quite big stone in my garden - but nothing to compare with this menhir!!!!!!! Is it your garden by the way?
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Gerard Depardieu carrying this menhir :)
ReplyDeleteAh, finally I got to see Obelix' house! Did you manage to see any boars?
ReplyDelete..wirklich groß und interessant - hat seinen eigenen Charme..:)

It's huge! I've seen several in Portugal but not this high!
ReplyDeleteEveryone loves Obelix. Asterix is okay, but Obelix is cute.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know menhirs are that huge. BTW, your picture is way better than the one on Wikipedia.
