sunken trees, lake, forest

Sunken forest

The silver grey pit heap with stairs is located in the Saarbrücken Urwald, a forest that was originally used to supply the coal mines with timber. Since 1997 this forest has been given over totally to nature. Near the pit heap is a chain of small lakes, including this one, which I assume has flooded these trees in the course of mine subsidence. Or is this another mystery of the forest?

  1. Very wierd indeed ... hardly able to say it is beautiful when it is built on such ugliness and I guess could collapse at any time ... is it bracken and smelly?

It was rather still but not smelly. If you click on the location (Malstatt, Saarbrücken), you will see that a little stream seems to connect all the lakes.

  4. Mystery forest, I like that. Nature always has a way of cleaning up our mess. however, sometimes it takes many many years.

  8. These are great AB. I'm very impressed with your phone cam shots. Most of my blog pics are also taken with my phone cam, but the colour isn't as good as these! Well done! (I use a Nokia 6110 Navigator)

  10. Thanks for the comments.

Spooky? Indeed, almost as spooky as the bat hunting expeditions they organise in these woods (Fledermaus-Wanderungen).

Alligators? No, I did not see any. But then I did not see many people either. Maybe, the alligators had eaten them.

Camphone? Yes, all photos are from my Nokia.
