Les crocs
One of many safety posters warning about the many dangers in the mine.
Update: Two things might need explanation: the crocodile's head is a shearer, and the French says “Its crocs show no mercy”.

What an odd image to use. Here we would think there were real crocodiles to worry about down the tunnels.
ReplyDeleteIncroyable! I would be very scared if I found one of these critter!wow
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
Léia
What does it say? There are underground crocs in the mine?
ReplyDeleteThat's very powerful, you can't miss it!
ReplyDeleteStrange poster, but I agree - you can't miss it:)
ReplyDeleteVery interesting poster. I love going to France but I don't know much about this part of the country.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments.
ReplyDeleteJoan Elizabeth: I think that in the poor light I did not do the poster justice. In better light, it is clearer that the crocodile's head is a dangerous drilling device.
Cezar and Léia: Do not let this put you off visiting the museum. If there are such creatures, they have them well-caged.
Eki: I added my attempt at a translation to the original entry. The point of the poster is to warn you of the dangers of the drilling machines. But, I think this is an insult to the miners intelligence. Anyone can see the things are dangerous.
JM: And that is after it has faded with age.
joo: Dziękuję.
James: It is not on your usual tourist route. But, if you are visiting the great new Pompidou Centre in Metz, you could quickly take trip out to this museum.
It's a poster that warns of the dangers in the mine. I wonder if the warning is for the workers or trespassers. Thanks for sharing AB. Like I've said before your blog has become an educationa tool for me.
